Modern Farmhouse Side Panel Door

Before beginning, make sure you’ve got some trusty craft glue and a handful of binder clips.

Optional (but very handy) are a sanding block and an indentation pen.

Let’s Begin

Start by locating the door, side panels and thin trim pieces.

Determine which side you’ll want the door to open on. The trim will be installed to the front side of the door.

Apply trim to the door, starting with the top trim piece.

Clean off any extra glue and use small binder clips to hold until dry.

Add long trim to edges of door.

Add final two trim pieces to the base of the door, with the widest pieces at the very bottom.

Assemble each side panel by adding one slotted long door frame edge to each panel.

Finish each side panel by adding one smooth long door frame edge to each panel.

Clean off any extra glue and use small binder clips to hold until dry.

Affix door frame top to first side panel at notches.

Attach second side panel at notches. Hold with small binder clips.

Flip door frame over and add glue to side panel notches at the base.

Position door into hinge slot.

Attach base door frame.

Clean off any extra glue.

Use small binder clips to hold until dry.

Once door frame glue has dried, start adding side panel trim pieces.

Start with top trim piece.

Add first narrow side trim.

Hold with small binder clips.

Add wider base trim panel.

Add second narrow side trim.

Affix narrower base trim. Repeat on second side panel.

Clean off any extra glue and add binder clips until glue has dried.

Set out exterior trim pieces.

Glue together both upper trim pieces, aligning at top.

Affix with small binder clips.

Assemble each side and hold with small binder clips.

Once glue has dried, remove binder clips and sand the exterior edges until completely smooth.

Glue side trim to house exterior.

Add top trim to exterior.

Affix with large binder clips until glue has dried.

We recommend painting the dollhouse and door before final assembly.

When ready, add door assembly from inside.

Glue into place. Add interior trim to finish.
