Miniature Furniture Painting Made Easy

As much as I enjoy brush painting tiny little furniture pieces, for speed and consistent coverage, nothing beats spray paint. However, if you’ve ever tried to spray one of these little pieces, you’re well aware that it can be challenging. You want to make sure that you can get coverage on all of the tiny little angles and curves, but you don’t want to lay on too many coats. And half of the time, the blast of paint knocks over your project. So, here goes my super easy painting hack.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

Dowel: I used a left over pieces of balsa, but you could use practically anything, in fact, any twig would do the trick.

Adhesive: I find this yellow reusable putty to be useful for a variety of miniature projects, so always have it on hand. You could use a different adhesive though, such as double-sided tape.

Spray Paint: I prefer Rust-oleum, but you can use whatever you’ve found to work well.

Jar: I happen to be using a smallish mason jar. A drinking glass or mug, or really anything will do.

1.

Apply a small spot of adhesive to the end of the dowel.

2.

Firmly press the adhesive onto the underside of the piece of furniture you are going to paint.

3.

Give the dowel a few swishes (like you are doing a smallish magic spell). If it seems to be holding, you are ready to paint.

4.

Now step outside and do your thing. You can use the dowel to rotate slowly and get to every little angle. I probably should have added that you might want to wear gloves. I don’t, but I also end up getting paint on my hands too. So, I’ll leave that up to you.

5.

When you are satisfied with your paint job, place the end of the dowel upright in the jar to let dry. You can actually get two or three dowels in a jar at once without having any of the pieces touching. They look like cute little furniture bouquets. When dry, you can pop off the adhesive and touch up the spot it left.

Happy painting!
